Absence makes the heart grow fonder...I was thinking of this today and i wondered, really does it do that always?I am in a long distance marriage now and i could put that above saying more aptly as Absence makes the heart frustrating! Last year i did survive the same for a period of 8 months and this time around its only for 2 months ; but frankly i think the frustration is just as bad now as it was then. There i have said it.I prefer to have another adult in the house to talk to and being more specific i like to have my hubby in the house.Though when we are actually together ,there are days when i feel like throwing him out 0_0!
Its heartening to know that my hubby on the other side isn't too happy either,he misses us.Still, on the better side of things for him,he gets to go back to care free days ,no responsibilities,no nagging from the wife(that being me)and no child demanding his attention(our 3 yr old) .Hmmm...come to think of it maybe that's the root of my frustration. The thought that he's having a good time away from home while i am stuck with the home-office-home routine, grocery shopping(boring stuff!),bills, bank formalities and what not! When i had to travel for a short term assignment of 3 months,i left my daughter back home with my parents.I was upset about leaving her and going but at same time i was really really excited being on my own .I enjoyed the freedom and sense of independence i got.Being in a new place with no familiar face was scary and exciting at the same time.So it seems only natural that my husband is also enjoying the short time away from home.:(
With networks like Vonage and Skype ,it's not a costly affair to speak twice or thrice every day and with Skype we can see each other as well. What worries me though is the fact that on some days i run out of things to talk about.Hmmm.. now is that weird or just plain normal? It normally doesn't happen when we are together at one place.Guess i don't need to hit the panic button in that case.Nothing compares to having your family at one place and being able to actually talk things face to face where you can see the smile or the concern in each others face,or feel that reassuring hand comforting each other at difficult times .
So my message is loud and clear All you people in long distance relationships come back soon to your other halves, whatever our reasons maybe ;be it grocery shopping, hate to sleep alone factor, need help with the cooking/plumbing whatever!!We Miss You terribly and our hearts cant take it anymore!
P.S: Hats off to those couples who manage to stay totally happy in long distance relationships,i don't know how you guys do it !

DeleteThere's no need to panic at least, when you run out of topic during phone conversations. I am only talking from the experience with my parents with whom i was pretty close and when I left home around 5 years ago for getting better settled in life, I did not know the distance is gonna grow this much with time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe because some of us do not like to do long phone conversations or don't feel the person is near through the phone! So, how hard you try, every conversation ends up like "everything is fine here, and everything is fine here too", when neither of them are fine!
@ Linju: that's so right.. i am tired of saying i am fine over the phone when i am not:)
Deletethat was pretty good..
ReplyDeletei haven't been in a long distance relationship yet but somehow the second para made a lot of sense! i must be weirdly frustrated because i know how that para feels like and i go through it now & then too! :(
ReplyDelete@ Sujatha..yes sometimes we r just frustrated with the routine things itself..
DeleteAw :) I wonder which saying holds good: "absence makes thE heart grow fonder" or "out of sight, out of mind" :)
ReplyDeleteits certainly not "out of sight out of mind"
